Pupils and parents of Jubilee and Lauriston Primary Schools explored London's cultural delights, and used this website to write about their experience, and share photographs of the city and their life.

Why why why have I never been to watch a Shakespeare play??..  Isn't it a wonderful thing to learn new things about our old English language even at my ripe old age !!!  Well I'm sure  this is the start of something new so thank you ABC.

Nations At The National Theatre Brill

Hi
I went to see the Nations that is a story about two young people from different parts of the world. There is  massive waves in the sea that distroys the land killing the nations people leaving one boy teenager alive.  In the sea there is a ship wreck and the teenager girl is swept to the land that is where the boy is left alone.

Bought together they do not understand each other ,different languages, different cultures, different races.  These two teenager learn to survive  and help others they meet, in the end they must part but they never forget each otheer.

My son Dwaun enjoyed the play very much he was on the edge of  his chair all the way through.  The play was beautifully done and is a must see event.

nation at the national theatre

Phew!I think the last time I went to the theatre was about 8  months ago to see a ballet in Adelaide in South Australia before I moved to London and I remember feeling breathless as I sat down after rushing to get there after organising babysitters etc....it always takes a minute to catch your breath and allow yourself to be lifted out of ordinary life and into imagination where you dont have to have the same rules.

I really loved Nation because I was immediately taken away from thinking about buses and the shopping and whether or not to buy milk on the way home.BAM! right into it,the axe in the wood and the birds, the first of the puppets.I love puppets, especially surprising witty puppets that make you wonder about how they were made.

enough from me,Alex, more from Nile later.

Nation

Thank you all for coming last night. I was concerned when the play started that it might be a bit patronising, that the 'Natives' were savages and 'The White Man' would svae the day but was pleased that that tuned out to be not the case at all. I was thrilled to see the group absolutley lapping it up and for a generation brought up on the sophistication of computer games and Avatar and the cinema - I was delighted to see the children so engrossed in the story and the staging. Total suspension of belief.
Ah the staging! Brilliant; the drowning, the boat scene, the storm - all amazing! Now, how can I work all that into the next Christmas Production???
If theatre is to entertain and make you think (and I think its supposed to) then this ticked all the boxes. I went home and turned on the news and saw the devastation in Haiti and thought how they will struggle to rebuild their Nation...can we learn from the mistakes of the past or will society just carry on building itself anew with all the errors of before? Mau tried...lessons should be learned. Listen to me getting all deep and its only 8.20 in the morning and I'm full of cold and very little sleep...I blame the lemsip! Looking forward to hearing everyone's views...on theplay - not my cold!

Nation at The National Theatre

Well, I left this evening's performance at The National feeling like I had just eaten a meal. Sometimes  just a snack will do, sometimes a takeaway but tonight I felt like I'd had a banquet! The whole performance was so rich that I'll be digesting it for weeks to come.

Trip to the National Theatre..

I thought it was quite good but some of the parts were a bit dramitc  it was fun whatching .I think i would go to watch it again. They made it look realistic. As an example the bit when the guy got shot in the eye and i saw blood also the people swimming in the water.but it was strings.I liked the how the added all the instruments together and made different sounds.
By Keon.
Ps had fun with Ronnie and Nile.

The first trip..

So we went to watch Nation,it was uhm,uhm thinking of the right words er!It was ok,so much going on in the story line.i liked the one liners from the parrot. The toad joke had me in fits!!
Had lots of fun on the bus home...cant wait for the next sess.
Keon loved it..
I love seeing the children smile and laff! What more can a mum ask for??

THE ROYAL NATIONAL THEATRE

LOOKING FORWARD TO TOMORROW

Avatar

Today I want to see Avatar with my sister Ksenia. It was such an inspiring and amazing film and I really enjoyed watching it in 3D. It opened my eyes to see how our forests were being destroyed and it also showed me how the living creatures must feel about their homes being destroyed. It made me very sad knowing that people don't realize the effect it makes, even one tree can effect a whole family of a certain specie... I'm going to try to do all i can to make a difference now.

Neglected Culture

Have you ever paused to think of what went wrong with the old family culture of going together to church on every sunday mornnings? It dawns on me when I see the amount of crimes commited these days as a result of heartlessness. In the past, families go to church and are taught of christian values and the mind of God based on the Bible. But today, you seem to be an outcast when you hold a bible, not to mention of talking about it. Back in the days when we took religion so seriously, the level of crime was very minimal, and whenever someone commits any astrocities, they find the church as a place to repent and to make new decisions for a better life. But today, we all chase money and other pleasures of life and these have not help in solving any of our societal problems. If we dont turn back to God and take our religion and beliefs seriously, more crimes and indecent behaviours will continue to be rampant in our society.

Many of our youths today find themselves in different problems and bad crimes because they didn't grow to understand the biblical values. In the past, children  grow up in the church setting and this helps their behaviour and approach to life. I vividly believe that going back to this neglected culture will help the next generation to be a blessing to the society rather than pain. I am preparing for church for tomorrow. Speak to you later.

The Royal Opera House

The royal Opera house is a ballet show that shows different kind of ballets for you and your friends to watch. The seats ook so royal and beautiful but you might not think it is a good as you thought it would be.I went to the Royal Opera house and the toilets were clean everywhere was clean and it looks nice but you are there to watch ballets not to see how Royal it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can go on http://www.roh.org.uk/video/index.html?bcpid=1733261711&bclid=1740131613&bctid=41872308001 I went on it and it is apsolutely fab i can't even explain how good it is!

The Royal Ballet’s Masterclasses raise the curtain on the rehearsal process, allowing you to see ‘behind-the-scenes’ action. The dancers rehearse a work under the guidance of their teacher, to the accompaniment of a pianist, and before the audience’s very eyes – so that everything has a ‘fly on the wall’ feel.

Even Monica Mason was present at the ‘Agon’ Masterclass on Thursday 15 October. A hushed silence overcame the audience when she entered the studio, immediately followed by self-aware laughter. And there were more laughs to come with stager Patricia Neary’s great wit, energy and humour. Who better to rehearse Balanchine’s masterpiece than one of the first people to dance it? Neary has taught the piece for forty years and she recounted numerous amusing anecdotes about her experiences of working with ‘M. B’, as she affectionately calls Balanchine.

As you’d expect, Neary has very high expectations – and always tells it how it is. ‘It’s not spectacular’, she says to one of the dancers about a particular step just performed. Pat, as she is known in the ballet world, consistently corrects the dancers during the class and gets them to repeat anything that is not totally right. This is the kind of perfectionism that produces the first-rate performances we see on the main stage. And dancers Yuhui Choe, Melissa Hamilton, Johannes Stepanek, Brian Maloney and Eric Underwood don’t seem to mind. In fact, they seem to have great admiration for her. Pat’s passion and enthusiasm for her work is infectious – and this extends beyond the dancers. When Johannes Stepanek gets a step right after Pat’s corrections, there were shouts of ‘yeah’s from the audience and lots of clapping.
This is the royal opera house inside does it look royal to you?

AFRICAN NATIONS CUP

The African Nations Cup started on the 10th of January 2010 with  Angola being the host country. I enjoy watching the African Nations Cup because, it is a competition that brings all African people together. The Nations Cup is about celebrating the special and talented players in Africa.
I am a huge Nigerian supporter since, it is the country of my origin. I hope Nigeria win the Nations Cup. Nigeria's star player is John Obi Mikel. He has unbelieveable talent and could potentailly become great. He plays for Chelsea football club. He is a midfielder and Nigeria's playmaker.
There are other amazing teams in the Nations Cup. Ivory Coast, who are the favourites, have the most talented bunch of players in Africa. Their star man Didier Drogba plays for Chelsea football club. Cameroon who are four times African Nations Cup champions will be very hard to beat. Their star man is Samuel E'to who plays for Inter Milan. Ghana have the most solid team in the competition. Their star man is Michael Essien who plays for Chelsea football club. The other team to watch out for are the five times and the winners of the last two tornaments, Egypt. Their star man is Mohamed Zidan who plays for Borussia Dortmund. The outsiders are the ever so dangerous Algerians. The Algerians qualified for their first world cup since, 1982. Their star man is Karim Ziani who plays for Vfl Wolfsburg.

Tune in on EuroSport at 3:30 and 6:30 daily to enjoy Africa's best players on show.

Doctor Who

On Christmas day i watched my favourite programme called Doctor Who. The emotional part was when the grandad knocked 4 times because he wanted to get out of a trap and he was scared. It was sad because The Doctor was about to die. What inspired me was all the effects and the master and how all the time lords came back. My favourite character is the master now because he  faught the president time lord to save the doctor.

Where the wild things are

Today i spoke about a film that i watched at the movies, called Where the wild things are.  I rememebered this movie as a book that i read when i was a child, it scared me but i liked it.

The movie was good it lived upto my imagination as a child and bought up  memories of when i was growing. I was glad that they made a movie that my own children could watch.

First day at school!!!

Today was our first meeting with Arts Beyond the classroom. We started off by having a group discussion about what has isnspired us most lately. (It's harder than you think!) After careful consideration I chose Avator (partly because it's the only thing I've seen lately) I wouldn't say it inspired me but it definetley made me think about life and our planet and how precious everything on earth is. It also encouraged me to buy Elise a pet hamster he's growing on me!!!

Danielle

Today we spoke about what inspired us the most lately. I chose animals because some people treat animals really badly and it kinda makes me feel sorry for them so i think all of us should treat them the way we treat people. We also learned how to do our own blogs and diffrent interveiw techniques.

Natural History Museum

Recently i visited the history museum for the first time. I went to visit there because I needed to do research for college. When I got there I was very surprised about how beautiful the artifacts were in the museum and I learnt many interesting things about the history of other cultures. For example, In the asian section there was a big gold gong which was used in China also there was a statue of a gold buddah statue which was usually found in ancient temples. One thing which I remember is a crystal skull which was in a glass box, it made me think it was very precious and the fact that it was made by hand hundreds of years ago fascinated me!! This museum inspired me to study History in college!
