How to get your photos on the site
| 09 February 2010
It's been fascinating reading about everyone's experiences with the photo workshop and the Portrait Gallery and I'm sure you're all keen to start sharing your work. Here is a quick guide to creating a photo album on the site, and including photos in your blog.
And remember - don't share photos that you wouldn't be happy for the world to see!
How to upload an album of your photos
1 - plug your camera into your computer. If needed, copy the photos onto your hard drive (some cameras don't require this).
2 - log into the website and click on 'My Photos' on the left hand side

3 - you can either add your photos to an existing album, or create a new photo album. If you're uploading a few, why not create a new photo album by clicking 'create album'
4 - now you can give your album a title and a description

5 - Click create and you'll be invited to upload some photos:

6 - Click 'choose file' to find your photo on your hard drive or camera, and locate as many photos as you want. They need to be JPEGs, PNGs or GIFs. When you're done, click 'Start Upload'.
7 - This will take a few minutes, depending how big your photos are. When it's done you'll be able to browse your album and leave comments.

How to include your photos in your blog
To put photos from your album in your blog, you need to first create a new a blog article.
1 - click your mouse where you would like the photo to appear, and click on 'images and documents on the right hand side of the page:

2 - in the window that comes up, all of your albums will appear as numbered folders. Click on a folder and it will show you the photos inside. Move back to look in other folders, by clicking the folder with a green arrow.

3 - select the photo you want to include by clicking on it (the ones called 'thumb_something' are miniature square 'thumbnails' of your photo so don't bother with them. Your photo should now appear in your blog!

Other tips
- If you haven't created an album but just want to add a single photo or poster to your blog, click 'images and documents' on the right hand side as described above, but rather than selecting a photo, click upload. Then you can chose the picture you want from your hard drive or camera and click upload:

- If you haven't taken any photos yet but want to include some you could always use other people's photos where they've said they want to share them. This is called 'Creative Commons' and it means you can use these photos in your work for free, as long as you give credit to the person who took the photo. So as I didn't have any photos of Banksy artworks around London I went to Flickr - a big photo sharing website - and searched for Creative Commons photos. This is the search page here. This is the results page here. Once I found the photos I liked, I saved them to my computer (right click, 'save as') and then uploaded them again.
