Arts Beyond the Classroom

A group blog for families to share experiences of culture in London.

Well, I left this evening's performance at The National feeling like I had just eaten a meal. Sometimes  just a snack will do, sometimes a takeaway but tonight I felt like I'd had a banquet! The whole performance was so rich that I'll be digesting it for weeks to come.

It was one of the most lavish productions I have ever seen (the National always does brilliant stuff around Christmas) and I always marvel at the scenery and sets in The Olivier Theatre. What never ceases to amaze me is that it's a live performance and these actors put their heart and soul into it night after night. It's so different from watching a film.

Sorry about the swearing but I think we've all heard worse on telly and most of it was done by a parrot who didn't know any better. I meant to take one of the Flip cameras along so we could record some responses there and then and add them to the blog but I'm afraid I forgot. Anyone who wants to come in and do a quick piece to camera on what they thought would be most welcome.

Anyway, what a very nice group we've got for ABC2 and what a lovely way to start the programme. I'm already looking forward to the next session!

"I think what i have learnt the most about this project is.......wait for it....is SELF BELIEF. If an artist or anyone, writes, sings, dances or sculpts etc and believes they have done a good job, well thats all that matters....i have doubted myself in the past, lacked believing in myself and what i can achieve....”
