hello, alex here,we are at the workshop and I am sick as a dog.I delivered my entry to the National Portrait (painting )prize today.I always feel a bit flat after I do this. The portrait has been sitting on the back of the cooker this last week, looking at me while I do the cooking.I will miss it.

nile says;the portrait gallery was a bit boring and disgusting but after we went to watch avatar in 3d it was sick(wicked).

alex says;I really loved the Portrait Gallery, especially because I have entered the B.P Portrait Prize this year with a portrait of my friend the writer Courttia Newland.
(At the moment it is a wet painting on our balcony)
...and as we are in the classroom at the moment I have to stop and load photos, will write more later

we loved the Hip Hop and the bit where someone went 'euwe' at the ballet dancers kissing and lots of people laughed and then we got told off by the usher.

Alex loved the variety of people old ,young, all ages all colours, shapes and sizes going to see dance on a Sunday Night. And the dance/theatre piece with the green leaves.

Phew!I think the last time I went to the theatre was about 8  months ago to see a ballet in Adelaide in South Australia before I moved to London and I remember feeling breathless as I sat down after rushing to get there after organising babysitters etc....it always takes a minute to catch your breath and allow yourself to be lifted out of ordinary life and into imagination where you dont have to have the same rules.

I really loved Nation because I was immediately taken away from thinking about buses and the shopping and whether or not to buy milk on the way home.BAM! right into it,the axe in the wood and the birds, the first of the puppets.I love puppets, especially surprising witty puppets that make you wonder about how they were made.

nile says; i think  its good because you get to spend more time with your parents( when your not getting shouted at about messy rooms)

alex says; i was looking forward to spending time with nile and talking about something else other than the football and not yelling at him about his untidy room.

"Going to the dance was a fantastic experience. My grandmother who was very formal and austere used to take me to the ballet and i absolutely hated it"

"I think what i have learnt the most about this project is.......wait for it....is SELF BELIEF. If an artist or anyone, writes, sings, dances or sculpts etc and believes they have done a good job, well thats all that matters....i have doubted myself in the past, lacked believing in myself and what i can achieve....”

"We have decided to take Ryan and Naombh somewhere at least once a month and have figured that with our children its best sometimes just to get on a bus or tube and just see what's going on ,sort of exposing them to the arts accidentally there is so much to see and do"
