ABC 2009

Our first visit to the Tate Modern.....

Well, well well, what a turn up for the books!I have an opinion about art! Some i like some i dont and some well quit frankly,i think the artist is trying his or her luck!

I can say i really had a good time,i have seen  films when people walk round galleries and look at a picture for a good few minutes.I really never thought that would be me,it was,i was looking at the painting morning,i related to it in so many ways. She looked tired, sad and hurt. All of which i have felt!Believe me that could of been me lying there!I felt and feel, sometimes we just need to rest....

.Through out the day,i thought what would of been interesting would,to have a discussion on a particular piece and have the artist tell us the thought behind the piece.

I had a conversation with Nick and it dawned on me that everything i had looked at had been someones creation....who am i to say something is rubbish?I really dont like when someone dismisses and rubbishs my ideas!!

I think what i have learnt the most about this project is.......wait for it....is SELF BELIEF.If an artist or anyone, writes, sings, dances or sculpts etc and believes they have done a good job, well thats all that matters....i have doubted myself in the past, lacked believing in myself and what i can achieve.Im not saying this has been a life changing project, what i will say it has given me something to think about.

So will i go back to Saddlers wells?Yes im going Friday, with a group of friends we are doing a flamenco workshop, all because i went on how great the dancers were. Will i go back to the Tate,Yes.....Will i ever have the love for museums that Keon has......i really dont see that happening, well not in this life time!

Keons Words

I thought that the Tate was very interesting and it is full of Royal pieces of art.I liked how the big rock looked. It was a nice day.

Tate Modern

Right! I think I know how to work this now, just as the project nears its end....

Never mind, better late than never. I've really enjoyed the last couple of events for ABC. The workshop on Thursday was great fun and I'm so impressed with the way everyone pitches in straight away now without any hestation.

By the end of the session I thought any one of your pieces would look good in Tate Mod and I think it served as a good grounding for what we went on to experience in the gallery.

I loved the day at the gallery. It wasn't relaxing but it wasn't meant to be. It was just great to see all parent and children partnerships so engaged and with some many considered opinions about what we were experiencing. I totally agree with Nick about how eloquent everyone was, parents and children.

I also liked the gallery guide thing invented by Effie but have had a few thoughts about ways to improve it (Effie and Selina have asked all of us to give suggestions about how to make it better so if you have any thoughts, post them up).

I'm now really looking forward to the workshop at Lauriston on Tuesday with Jane Monihan and then the visit to Sir John Soane's Museum on 23rd. It's definitely going to be the oddest one of our visits but should be great fun too.

Tate Modern

What a day...I get so worried that we are going to have a poor turnout and I do realise that life comes up and prevents people from coming but it was brilliant to see those that could come, smiling and happy and raring to go so early in the morning. I'm loving getting to know people better and we had a good laugh on the bus. Now...what can I do to get everyone back on board for next week?

I know there were concerns that 'galleries weren't/aren't for us' but the chat that was going round was superb! Naya really amazed me with what she was saying about abstract art...and I think Anita and I really bonded with our love of '30 pieces of Silver'. The more we talked the more we got into it.

Wonderful to hear Alison being so vocal and talking about art and how she got such meaning from it. And also to hear Des' views - that he was moved to such passion when explaining about how he felt about the silver was really powerful. Kelly told me she didn't like galleries and there she was wanting to take a picture home with her! And Jodie got to roll!!!! Her enthusiasm for life is so catching!

Perhaps the day was too long - after lunch its always diffcult to get the children re-focused - but I had a wonderful day. I think some people's minds may have changed, hopefully there will be more visitors to art galleries. We don't have to like anything we see...but Alison you did stay looking at things - one lion may be very much like another one...but art is very different! Thank you everyone for a fantastic day

Next workshop is at Lauriston on Tuesday after school - we can leave school at 3? And then the trip is after that...can't remember the day but it's to John Soanes Museum (I've never been but the children say its brilliant!)

Art Workshop....time flies when your 'avin fun!

The workshop on Wed was brill! It was good to look at the RIGSBY.i didnt have an opinion before, after looking and thinking i did, quite funny that A-shar and i thought he was little cocky looking!!

I enjoyed creating a peice, didnt really think about it to much,I was happy that i had created something. The end result was mix between a dragon fly and a flower. Its intresting that others wanted to improve my peice lol.Keon enjoyed the workshop also,we are quite similar in that we worked quickly. We just wanted to wack something out!

I look forward to the workshops,as the time flies so fast. Not sure about The tate visit as im someone who has a look and moves on.Like when i have been dragged to the zoo,one lion looks just like the others,i have a look and move on.everyone else is like ah look at that one,ahw look at that one.NEXT.So i hope i what i see at the tate holds my attention,i will take in what i see just not sure i will want to look at peices for long period of times??Lets see.

One of the things i have enjoyed about this project is talking to the other parents,im a mum who drops Keon off, then im off to work,so its been a good opportunity to show people that i do like have a personality!

One last thing it really shows that the teachers are really wanting us to enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.I had never set eyes on Miss vale and Mr Cannon and now we sit down and laugh.Keon talks about teachers so its nice to beable to do that.

Thats all folks !!!

Art workshop

What an evening! It was great fun and lovely to see so many parents being so involved in creating fantatstic sculptures - thank you Sue for all your inspiration. Thank you too to Jodie, Alison, Jasmine, Yvonne and Kelly...as well as your amazing children...for all your brilliant comments about the metal man (we call him Rigsby by the way - he reminds us of that character in Rising Damp).

I love all your ideas and the way you are so ready to share your ideas with everybody! Keep it up - the learning is wonderful and it will really help the children to learn alongside the adults

And thanks to Yvonne for bringing Aaron...our newest and youngest ABC member! I love all your ideas for taking the group further next year...keep thinking and we'll write them all down very soon! I really believe in this and desperately want it to work...sorry if that comes across as a littel manic at times! I think the team has great potential to spread the word about the importance of building relationships, learning and having fun - all at the same time.

Remember the QUEST books when you come to the Tate and when you visit other musuems and if you didn't take it with you, I have got some more.

sadlers wells

on our trip to sadlers wells we learnt alot about diffrent dance moves we love to dance and found it such a great experiance.we would love to go back and see some more.

best gig never!

the best gig that i never went to was when nirvana played the kilburn national in 1991(?)My boyfriend and i had fallen out with the friend who held the tickets, and he sold them. Soon after Nirvana became the biggest band in the world.
